Technology

All core technology within the engines of Virgil is developed in Java and Java related tools. The applications are delivered with an embedded application server and run on any Linux, Unix or Windows OS. For the collaboration between the Engines and the portlets, windows or (mobile) sites, a framework based on AJAX and Comet was developed enabling streaming data without the use of applets.

As a result of architecture and technology, our core engines are endlessly scalable over multiple machines and services can be provided to large groups over users / concurrent users.

User interfaces are developed in HTML, DHTML and Javascript. Javascript was also deployed to bypass Enterprise Portal behaviour that conflicts with multiple updates per second within portlets. Open source plug-ins are used for dynamic charts and table definitions.

All our HTML, whether generated or not is subject to CSS enabling easy visual integration into existing web - or portal environments. API's to ratefeeds and trading systems are preferably developed and tailored in Java - our solutions are very agnostic to different databases.

As technology progresses, we remain on the outlook for technology that will support richer zero-client functionality, better performance and security, and lower risk of implementation and cost of ownership.
