Technical Requirements

Portal server requirements
One™ is fully integrated and certified for IBM® WebSphere® Portal and supports version 5.1 or 6.0. Many of the portlets that are part of One™ are also available for JSR168 compliant portals.
The portlets are packaged in a web application archive (WAR) file. Some configuration will be necessary in the portal application, for example to be able to locate the One-DataEngine™ or the One-TradeEngine™ instances.

Client side requirements

The following browsers are supported by One™:

  1. Internet explorer versions 6.0 and up
  2. Safari version 1.3 and up
  3. Mozilla Firefox versions 1.0 and up
  4. Mozilla 1.4 and up/ SeaMonkey 1.0 and up

JavaScript is extensively used by both One™.. Therefore users have to make sure that JavaScript is enabled in their browser. One™ portlets do not depend on ActiveX controls, but they do use some of Internet Explorer's built-in support for AJAX technology. For this reason, ActiveX needs to be enabled in Internet Explorer. This is by default the case, but ActiveX may have been disabled in some Internet Explorer browsers by the user. Enabling cookies is highly recommended, since they are used for the WebSphere® Portal's ession mechanism and to store certain user preferences. To view streaming and historic charts, a Flash™ plug-in version 6 or up is necessary. If a browser does not have this plug-in installed, then a non-streaming chart will be rendered instead.

Web server requirements
To protect users from malicious Internet websites, browsers employ a rigid security mechanism regarding which actions may be performed by JavaScript code. One rule of this mechanism states that JavaScript code can only make autonomous connections to the exact server the JavaScript was received from. For this reason, both the HTTP gateway to the One- DataEngine™ and the portal must be accessible through the same domain name. The way to achieve this is to set up a transparent proxy in your web server. Transparent proxying is a very common technique to combine multiple sites into a single domain name. Using a web server in conjunction with a portal plug-in also has the advantage of being able to make use of enhanced portal performance options such as portal loadbalancing.

The following web servers are supported by One™:
  1. Apache HTTP Server version1.3 and up. Due to better scalability features, version 2 or up, compiled with the so-called '' worker thread model'' is highly recommended.
  2. IBM® HTTP Servers, based on Apache, are also supported.
It is highly recommended to have all communication take place over encrypted channels. This can be achieved by setting up the web server product to use HTTPS, the secure socket layer version of the HTTP protocol.
